DES MOINES, Iowa – Two of the hotter teams in the Missouri Valley Conference are set to meet at the Knapp Center Saturday afternoon as the Drake University men's basketball team hosts UNI at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs have won two of their last three games and five-straight games at the Knapp Center while UNI has reeled off four-straight MVC wins. Saturday's contest will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network and on radio via ESPN Des Moines 1350-AM.
Saturday's game is also a 'Blueout' all fans encouraged to wear blue to fill the Knapp Center. The first 1,000 students will receive a free blue t-shirt courtesy of Jethro's BBQ.
Drake returns to its home court with 5-4 record in MVC action to sit in a tie for third place in the league standings after earning a 72-71 overtime victory at Missouri State on Tuesday evening. Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) scored 27 points in that win, including the game-winning shot, for his sixth 20-point performance of the season.
The last time the Bulldogs took to their home court, they executed down the stretch to earn an 88-84 overtime win against SIU for the team's fifth-straight home win. During the home winning streak, the Bulldogs have averaged 93.2 points per game. The team also ranks second in the MVC in scoring in conference games at 76.6 points per game.
UNI began its current four-game winning streak with a 79-60 win over Drake in Cedar Falls on Jan. 15. Jeremy Morgan and Bennett Koch each scored 21 points in that win. Koch is averaging 17.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game during that Panthers' four-game surge to improve to 4-5 in the MVC standings.
The game is the first of two back-to-back home games for the Bulldogs as they remain on campus to host Wichita State on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. The Shockers enter this weekend's game in second place in the MVC standings.
