Men’s Soccer Travels to Creighton and MVC Leader Missouri State

Following Saturday’s match, Drake returns home to host Evansville on Oct. 21. First kick with the Purple Aces is set for 3 p.m.

OMAHA, Neb. – The Drake University men's soccer team plays a familiar opponent Tuesday night when it visits Creighton. The former Missouri Valley Conference rivals are meeting for the first time since squaring off in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament. First kick at Morrison Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. Following Tuesday's match, Drake returns to MVC action on Saturday at MVC leader Missouri State at 6 p.m.

Drake (3-8-1, 0-3-1 MVC) battled Loyola to a scoreless draw in its last game on Saturday at Tiger Field in West Des Moines, Iowa. The match between the Bulldogs and Ramblers was moved from Cownie Stadium due to the field being unplayable after heavy rains fell Friday. Drake more than doubled up Loyola in shots, 11-4, but couldn't find the winner as the team is still after their first MVC win of 2017. Senior Aleksi Tuominen (Helsinki, Finland) led the Bulldogs with two shots on goal.

Creighton (6-4-1, 1-2-1 BIG East) is also coming off a draw as its home match last Friday against St. John's was called in the 81st minute with the score at 2-2. Officials ended the contest after a 1:19 delay because of persistent lightning and storms in the Omaha area. Creighton has dominated the all-time series against Drake, 26-3-8, including beating Drake in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs are vying for their first win over the Bluejays since 2009.

Missouri State (8-2-1, 4-0-0 MVC) is on a seven-match winning streak, including posting six straight shutouts, all by a score of 1-0. The Bears were tabbed third in the MVC preseason coaches poll. Drake and Missouri State battled to a 1-1 draw last season in Springfield. Mo. The teams will play once more this year when the Bears travel to Des Moines on Nov. 4 to close the season.
