Women’s Basketball Falls at No. 11/11 Oregon in WNIT Quarterfinals

EUGENE, Ore. – The Drake University women's basketball team lost at No. 11/11 Oregon, 110-77 on Sunday at Matthew Knight Arena in the quarterfinals of the preseason WNIT.
 
Drake (1-1) was led in scoring for the second-straight game by redshirt sophomore Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.) who scored 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Freshman Katie Van Scyoc (Green Lake, Wis.) came off the bench and added a career-high 11 points behind a career-best three three-pointers. Joining the two in double figures were sophomores Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) and Brenni Rose (Shawnee, Kan.) who each finished with 10 points. Junior Sammie Bachrodt (Wichita, Kan.) just missed double figures with nine points and she added four assists. The Bulldogs' final WNIT game details will be announced when become available.
 
Oregon (2-0), a 2017 Elite 8 participant, was paced by sophomore Sabrina Ionescu, who posted a triple-double with a game-high 29 points to go with 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Four other Ducks finished with 10 or more points. Oregon advances to the WNIT semifinals, where it will play Texas A&M.
 
Rose made a three-pointer for the Bulldogs' first points of the game as they battled with the Ducks, who led by as many as 16 midway through the second quarter. Drake chipped away at the deficit to trail by 11 at the halftime break. Rose had a team-high eight points while Hittner and Rhine each had six at halftime. Oregon knocked down 8-of-13 three-pointers to help build its advantage. Overall in the contest, the Ducks made 16 from behind the three-point arc.
 
Redshirt junior Maddy Dean (Jordan, Minn.) made a tough finish out of the break to bring the Bulldogs back to a single-digit deficit at nine points. However, Oregon answered with a 13-2 scoring run to pull away for the home victory.
