DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University men's tennis team closes out the regular season at Wichita State on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. A Bulldog victory will give Drake its 10th Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship.
The Bulldogs are 2-0 in MVC play after their wins over Southern Illinois and Illinois State on April 8. Sophomore
Vinny Gillespie, who is ranked 84th national in singles, leads the team with a 17-4 record, while classmate
Tom Hands has a 15-6 mark while going 7-2 in his last 10 matches.
The Shockers hold a 12-11 overall record and a 1-1 MVC mark. In WSU's last time out, the Shockers fell to NCAA Division II member Washburn, 4-3, on April 9. Haru Inoue, who is ranked 92nd nationally, has a 10-4 record as the team's top singles player. Marius Frosa leads the team with 14 wins and has slotted all over the lineup, ranging from No. 1 to No. 5 singles.
Drake has claimed the regular season title five of the last six season and is looking for its seventh-straight win over the Shockers.
