Women's Soccer Travels To Creighton In First Of Two Matches This Week

OMAHA, Neb. – The Drake University women's soccer team travels to former Missouri Valley Conference rival Creighton on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match. Following the road match, Drake (3-2-1) will host UIC on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Cownie Soccer Complex. Sunday's match will be broadcast online via The Valley on ESPN3.

The Bulldogs settled for a 2-2 draw with South Dakota State on Sunday. Drake twice held leads in the match but the Jackrabbits answered both times as the Bulldogs settled for their first tie of 2017. Seniors Rebecca Rodgers (Peotone, Ill.) and Brooke Salisbury (Kearney, Mo.) scored goals in the tie. The draw with SDSU came after a 3-0 defeat at the hands of No. 16 Wisconsin on Sept. 10. The Badgers moved up to No. 9 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Poll.

Creighton (1-5-1) earned its first win of the year with a 3-2 comeback road victory at Kansas State on Sunday. Creighton and Drake who were Missouri Valley Conference foes from 2002-12 haven't played since 2015. The Bluejays have defeated the Bulldogs in the previous two meetings, including a 3-2 win in Des Moines in 2015.

UIC (2-6) has dropped its last two matches after winning its previous two games. The Flames will play at Northern Kentucky before making the trip to Des Moines. Drake shutout UIC, 4-0, last season in Chicago.

Following Sunday's match, Drake stays at home to host Omaha on Sept. 20. First kick with the Mavericks is set for 7 p.m.
