Men’s Soccer Collects Multiple MVC Awards

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Drake University men's soccer team collected multiple Missouri Valley Conference end of the season awards Thursday night at the MVC men's soccer awards banquet in Evansville.

Sophomore Leroy Enzugusi (Marion, Iowa) highlights the awards with his selection to the All-MVC First Team. Junior Jared Brown (Aurora, Ontario) and redshirt senior Steven Enna (Overland Park, Kan.) were each selected to the All-MVC Second Team. Redshirt sophomore Lucas Bartlett (Overland Park, Kan.) and redshirt junior Cole Poppen (Ankeny, Iowa) round out the honorees as they each earned All-MVC Honorable Mention accolades.

This is the second All-MVC honor for Enzugusi, who earned All-MVC Honorable Mention as a freshman in 2017. This season, the dynamic forward has scored a team-high eight goals and recorded one assist. Enzugusi was named MVC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 2 after he scored three goals on just four shots in two matches.

Brown has played nearly every minute at goalkeeper for the Bulldogs in his first year. The Florida Gulf Coast transfer, recorded three shutouts, made 93 saves and allowed 16 goals. Brown was selected MVC Defensive Player of the Week twice in his first season.

Enna, who earned All-MVC Honorable Mention honors, has had a great final season. He returned to the pitch in 2018 after he played in just two matches in 2017 due to an injury. This year, Enna is second on the team in goals with five and also handed out three assists. He netted a golden goal in the 105th minute in Wednesday's quarterfinal win over Valpo.

A pair of Division I transfers, Bartlett and Poppen, have made immediate impacts for the Bulldogs in their first season. Bartlett, who transferred from Loyola Chicago, started 16 matches, scored two goals and dished out four assists. He scored the game winner over then No. 9 Butler and for that effort was named MVC Offensive Player of the Week. Poppen, who transferred from Tulsa and hails from Ankeny, Iowa, started every match in his first season. A midfielder, he finished with a league-best eight assists and added two goals.

As a team, Drake claimed the MVC Fair Play Award, which is structured after the FIFA Fair Play honor. It is awarded to the Valley program that has the fewest penalty cards during all MVC matches.

Drake plays Loyola Friday at 3 p.m. in the MVC Championship semifinals. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
