Men's Tennis Set For Another Busy Weekend

Bulldogs host UAB and GW on Friday before closing out the weekend Sunday versus Denver.

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Drake University men's tennis team is riding a four-match winning streak as the Bulldogs host UAB, George Washington and Summit League foe Denver this weekend. Drake and the Blazers square off at 10 a.m. on Friday, followed by GW at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs will look to improve their 2-0 Summit League record as they take on defending league champions Denver on Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Freshman Finley Hall received his first Summit League honors as he was named Player of the Week after going 3-0 singles and picking up two doubles wins. He clinched the Bulldogs wins over in-state rival Iowa and Pac-12 opponent Arizona.
 
The Bulldogs' junior class has been a strong in the singles lineup with a combined 21-7 record. Vinny Gillespie, who is ranked 120th nationally, has a 7-4 record at the top spot, while Tom Hands is playing like a No. 1 singles player as he has only dropped four or less games in six of his seven wins. Ben Clark has also been rolling through his opposition with a 7-1 record.
 
UAB comes to Des Moines with a 3-3 record. The Blazers started the year 0-3 but has bounced back and have won their last three outings. Tim Dollman leads the team with a 4-1 record at No. 1 singles.
 
The Colonials enters the weekend 0-7 and have only totaled three points in their seven matches. GW fell to Monmouth, 6-1, and Temple, 5-2, last weekend.
 
Denver will play at Iowa on Friday before taking on the Bulldogs on Sunday. The Pioneers are 3-1 and 1-0 in conference action. Denver has been led by Dedro Del Valle, who holds a 4-0 record at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spot.
 
Following this weekend's matches, the Bulldogs start a month-long road trip, beginning at Minnesota on Friday, Feb. 23.
