Men’s Basketball To Face Missouri State On ESPNU

Bulldogs hit the road in search of another MVC sweep.

The Drake University men's basketball team makes its annual visit to Springfield, Mo., to face Missouri State Sunday afternoon on ESPNU. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. at JQH Arena.

The Bulldogs take a two-game Missouri Valley Conference win streak to Springfield in search of a season-sweep of the Bears. Earlier this season, Drake (15-13, 9-6 MVC) defeated Missouri State (17-11, 7-8 MVC) 61-58 in the Knapp Center. Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) scored 24 points in that win while the defense held Missouri State's Alize Johnson, the MVC Preseason Player of the Year, without a field goal and to just two points in the win.

Drake is coming off a 90-76 win over Indiana State in which Timmer scored a career-high 39 points with eight three pointers while C.J. Rivers (Cahokia, Ill.) added 10 boards. Rivers leads the team in rebounding, assists and steals and is the only Valley player to lead his team in all three categories.

Missouri State has dropped six of its last eight outings, including most recently an overtime loss at SIU. Johnson leads the Bears in scoring at 15.6 points per game and is one of the nation's top rebounders at 11.5 boards per outing.

Following Sunday's contest, the Bulldogs close out the road portion of their schedule Wednesday, Feb. 21, evening at Illinois State before returning home to close the regular season Saturday against Valparaiso at 2 p.m.
