DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University men's tennis team will be the top seed at this week's Summit League Tournament in Denver, Colo. The Bulldogs will square off against No. 4 seed Oral Roberts on Friday at 4 p.m. to open the tournament.
Drake topped Nebraska and Illinois State last week to head into the postseason with a 17-13 record and a 6-0 mark in the Summit League. Juniors
Ben Clark and
Tom Hands have led the team with 17 singles win apiece. Hands leads the team with 20 doubles wins, while Clark, who
received his third Summit League Player of the Week honor earlier this week, isn't far behind with 16 doubles victories.
Oral Roberts heads into the league tournament on a two-match winning streak as the Golden Eagles defeated league foes South Dakota State and Illinois State. Marcello Moreira is the only player with a winning singles record with a 12-6 mark. In doubles, ORU is led by Eddy Leardini and Alvaro Santamaria with 9-2 record at the No. 3 spot.
The winner of Friday's semifinal will play the winner of No. 2 seed Denver and No. 3 Valparaiso in the Summit League championship match on Saturday.
