Men’s Soccer Hosts UIC Friday

Drake returns to Cownie Sept. 7 to host DePaul with first kick scheduled for 7 p.m.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Coming off its road upset at then No. 9 Butler Monday, the Drake University men's soccer team hosts Illinois-Chicago Friday at the Cownie Soccer Complex. First kick with the Flames is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the match will be shown on ESPN+. Following the game against UIC (2-0-0), Drake (1-1-0) visits UMKC (0-2-0) Sept. 4 with first kick in Kansas City, Mo. set for 7 p.m.

The win over the Butler Bulldogs is the first-ever win over a top-10 opponent in program history and helped the Bulldogs earn a vote in the most recent United Soccer Coaches' Top 25 poll. Drake trailed 1-0 late before redshirt senior Paul Ciszewski (Germantown, Wis.) evened the match in the 80th minute with a strike from 20 yards out. Later in the 87th minute, redshirt sophomore Lucas Bartlett (Overland Park, Kan.), who transferred from Loyola, went up top and headed in a corner kick from fellow newcomer, redshirt junior Cole Poppen (Ankeny, Iowa), a transfer from Tulsa. Bartlett's first goal at Drake gave the Bulldogs their highest win over a ranked opponent since the 2009 team beat No. 13 Ohio State, 1-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

UIC has victories over Campbell and Providence this season. Max Todd has a team-leading three goals for the Flames. Drake and UIC have played each other seven times with UIC holding a 5-2 advantage, including winning the last meeting in 2016 in Chicago by a score of 3-2.

UMKC has lost to Missouri State and SIUE this season. The Kangaroos will host Oral Roberts Friday night before welcoming the Bulldogs Tuesday night. Drake has dominated the all-time series with the Roos holding a commanding 22-6-2 advantage, including winning the last eight matches.
