KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Drake University women's soccer team closes its season-long six match road trip this weekend with two matches. Drake (1-3-0) visits UMKC (3-1) Friday night at 8 p.m. before it travels to North Dakota State (1-0-0) on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Drake is coming off a pair of 1-0 defeats last week to Kansas State and South Dakota State. The close losses marked a first for the program in five seasons as the last time the Bulldogs dropped consecutive 1-0 results was all the way back in 2013 when they lost to Western Illinois and UNI back-to-back. The Bulldogs will look to snap their scoreless streak Friday when they take the field in Kansas City. Sophomores
Olivia Bruce (Lakeville, Minn.) and
Sam Nosler (Westfield, Ind.) and freshman
Alison Walls (Kansas City, Mo.) have each scored one goal this season.
UMKC is coming off back-to-back road wins at UIC and Western Illinois, respectively. Senior Kelsey Mothershead has scored a team-best three goals this year. Drake holds a 5-1-1 lead in the all-time series against the Kangaroos, including taking the past two matches.
North Dakota State's only match so far this season is a dominant 4-1 victory over Green Bay. The Bison have had scheduled matches versus Weber State and Wisconsin cancelled due to weather. North Dakota State is led by first-year head coach Mike Regan who spent four seasons as an assistant coach with the Drake women's soccer team.
Following the road trip, Drake hosts Marquette on Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Cownie Soccer Complex. The match is the home opener for the Bulldogs and it will be streamed on ESPN+.
