Women's Soccer Plays at Omaha Wednesday in Final Non-Conference Match

After facing Omaha, Drake travels to Valparaiso, Ind. Sunday to take on Valparaiso to open their Missouri Valley Conference schedule.

OMAHA, Neb. – The Drake University women's soccer team closes out non-conference play Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in an away match at Omaha.

The Bulldogs went 1-1 at home last week. They lost a close 1-0 match to South Dakota Thursday night, and won 2-1 against Western Illinois Sunday afternoon. A pair of Bulldogs scored their first goals of the year against the Leathernecks in the team's first home win of 2018. Senior Tawny Carroll (Streamwood, Ill.) netted the first score and sophomore Hannah Bormmann (Amana, Iowa) had the game winner in the 83rd minute after the Leathernecks had tied the game just minutes earlier.

Omaha (2-6-1) is riding a two-game losing streak after losses to Ball State and Illinois State on the road this past weekend. Omaha has yet to pick up a road win (0-5-1), but they are a solid 2-1-0 at home this season.

The Mavs are led with four players who have each scored one goal, including Andrea Daves who scored a game-winning goal Sept. 2 at home against Green Bay. Omaha is also led by four players with one assist each, including Emily Romero who is in a tie with Daves for the team lead in points at three. Drake shutout Omaha, 2-0, last season in Des Moines. The Bulldogs hold a 3-2-0 advantage all-time in the series.

After facing Omaha, Drake travels to Valparaiso, Ind. Sunday to take on Valparaiso to open their Missouri Valley Conference schedule. Valparaiso (3-4-1) is averaging just over one goal per game, and the majority of their goals have come from Cory Griffith who has six goals, a total that ranks second in the MVC. Drake and Valpo revived a dormant rivalry last season after the Crusaders joined the MVC. Drake held off Valpo for a 4-2 win at home in the first match between the teams in 14 seasons. The Bulldogs hold a 3-0-1 advantage all-time over the Crusaders.

Following this week, the Bulldogs will host Illinois State in their first MVC home game at Cownie Soccer Complex Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
