DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's soccer team hosts Marquette Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Cownie Soccer Complex. The match is the home opener for the Bulldogs who started the season with six straight road matches. The game against the Golden Eagles will be streamed on ESPN+.
Drake (2-4-0) closed the season-long road trip with a 1-0 win over North Dakota State. Sophomore
Olivia Bruce (Lakeville, Minn.) scored in the 84
th minute as the Bulldogs snapped three-match losing and scoreless streaks. It is the second goal this season for Bruce who leads the team. Sophomore goalkeeper
Kelsie Stone (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) recorded her first career shutout. Bruce and Stone are two of 12 freshmen or sophomores who have logged significant minutes this season for Drake.
Marquette (0-5-1) is in search of its first win Sunday. The Golden Eagles were narrowly defeated by Colorado, 2-1, Thursday in Milwaukee. The Golden Eagles have played a challenging schedule with matches against then No. 12 California and No. 3 Duke. Marquette owns a 2-0-1 advantage all-time versus Drake, including a 3-0 win last season in Milwaukee.
Following Sunday's match, Drake hosts South Dakota Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. at Cownie. The game will be shown on ESPN+.
