Scouting Valparaiso
The Crusaders (2-9-1, 1-4-0 MVC) are in the midst of a five-game losing streak, a skid that began with a 2-0 defeat at home to Drake on Sept. 25.
Austin Smythe and
Leroy Enzugusi found the back of the net to lift the Bulldogs to victory.
Valparaiso now travels to Des Moines searching for its first win of the year away from home. The Crusaders have faced a treacherous road schedule this season, losing seven of eight matches outside of Brown Field.
Two of the top goalkeepers in the Missouri Valley Conference will face off on Wednesday as
Luke Anderson meets Valpo's Edvin Holst. Anderson's six clean sheets top the league while Holst leads the conference in saves (50) and saves per game (5.56).
Anderson will look for his seventh shutout against a team that hasn't scored a goal in its last three matches. Even so, Valparaiso ranks third in the MVC with an average of 1.25 goals scored per game.
Forward Cole Rainwater and midfielder Mason Marcey lead the Crusaders with identical stat lines of three goals, one assist, and seven points. Forward Ryan Madondo and midfielder Michael Cushing have each chipped in two goals this season, and defender Vukasin Bulatovic paces Valpo with two assists.
The Bulldogs will aim to start quickly as Valpo is 1-8-0 this year when its opponent scores first, compared to 1-1-1 when the Crusaders strike first blood.
