URBANDALE, Iowa – The Drake University women's soccer team will look to extend its winning streak when it hosts the Valparaiso Crusaders at Urbandale High School on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m, and live stats will be available.
Saturday is Senior Night for the Bulldogs, who will celebrate the contributions of seven players:
Reilly Bertram,
Ali Burke,
Vanessa Kavan,
Shelley Lyjak,
Mattie Perry,
Cassie Rohan, and
Annie Schmitz. The group has won 40 games over the last four years and helped Drake to the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship.
The Bulldogs (6-8-1, 3-2-0 MVC) have won three games in a row, shutting out the opponent in all three matches. They beat Indiana State, 1-0, in their last match thanks to a game-winner by
Abby Stephenson. It was the first goal of Stephenson's career.
Scouting Valparaiso
The Crusaders (1-13-1, 1-4-0 MVC) picked up their first win of the season, a 1-0 result over Evansville, in their last match. They will come to Des Moines seeking their first road win of the season, having lost their previous eight tries.
Lauren Torhorst, a 5-foot-6 junior defender, scored the decisive goal against Evansville for her team-best third goal this season. She also leads the Crusaders with six points.
