Men’s Basketball Hosts UNI For Legends Weekend

Bulldogs to honor alumni and the 1969 Final Four team

The Drake University men's basketball team returns to the Knapp Center to host in-state rival UNI Saturday as part of the Bulldogs' annual Legends Weekend.  Throughout the weekend, the Bulldogs will welcome and honor former players, including members of the 1969 Final Four team on the 50th anniversary of their historic season. The 5 p.m. game will be aired locally on FS Midwest, NBC Sports Chicago and other MVCTV affiliates.

Drake has won five of its last seven outings and is 9-2 on its home court this season where it has outscored opponents by more than 10 points per game. The Bulldogs 17 total wins to date equal last year's total and are the program's most wins since the 2011-12 team won 18 games.

In its last game, Drake was unable to withstand multiple runs in an 86-64 loss at defending MVC Champion Loyola despite on converting on 13-of-27 three-pointers with Brady Ellingson hitting on 6-of-8 attempts for 18 points.

Senior forward Nick McGlynn was held to a season-low six points in that loss but aims to rebound in front of the home crowd and reach the 1,000 career point mark. He enters Saturday's game needing just nine points to become the 25th Bulldog to join the exclusive group of 1,000-point scorers at Drake.

Drake dropped its first meeting with UNI this season, 57-54, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, but is looking for its second-straight win over the Panthers in the Knapp Center.

Following Saturday's game and celebration of Drake basketball, the Bulldogs return to the road to face SIU Tuesday evening in Carbondale, Ill.
