SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The final round of the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate was shortened due to inclement weather, giving the Drake University men's golf team a share of the team title after play was halted Tuesday.
The scores reverted back to Monday's final scores with the Bulldogs tying SIUE with team scores of 565. The Bulldogs recorded rounds of 285-280 to sit at 3-under par on the par-71 track.
"I am extremely proud of the way we played this week," said Drake head coach
Matt Lewis. "The guys have worked very hard this offseason and it showed the past couple of days. It feels great to get a team championship!"
Drake was lifted by the play of freshman Lucas Sherf (Grinnell, Iowa) who took medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 69-65–134. His title was fueled by an impressive 6-under par second round to win by three strokes. Sophomore
Tim Lim (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) finished in four-way tie for third with a score of 2-under 141 (72-69).
"Lucas was awesome shooting 8-under for 36 holes and winning the individual title," Lewis said. "Tim was also solid finishing tied for third."
Chase Wicklund (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was T-17
th at 145 (73-72) while
Kyle MacDonald (Burlington, Ontario) was T-21
st at 147 (72-75).
Arjun Reddy (Tulsa, Okla.) and
Tommi Avant (Chandler, Ariz.) finished tied for 35th at 151.
"We were a little disappointed we didn't get finish our third round today as we had the low score of the day going and a 4-shot lead," Lewis said. "Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate. We were so mentally tough and locked in today. I am pumped for the guys and excited to build on this."
