IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Drake (27-6) University women's basketball team is a No. 10 seed in the 2019 NCAA Tournament and will play No. 7 Missouri (23-10) Friday, March 22 at Carver Hawkeye Arena at 3 p.m. The NCAA First Round game will be broadcast on ESPN2/Watch ESPN with John Brickley and Christy Winters-Scott on the call. The entire game will air on Watch ESPN and on ESPN2 in the local market. There could also be times when the game is the national game on ESPN2 in their whip-around coverage.
The game will be broadcast on the radio 1350 ESPN Des Moines, but there will be no live audio via www.espndesmoines.com or the TunedIn app.
Drake (RV/25), the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference regular season champion and MVC Tournament runners-up, earned its fourth-ever at-large bid and its 13th NCAA Tournament berth. This is the Bulldogs' third-straight NCAA appearance.
Friday's game will be the first NCAA Tournament game for the Bulldogs held in the state of Iowa since 1986 when Drake defeated Kentucky, 73-70, in the first round held at Drake Fieldhouse.
Series History
This will be the fifth all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and the Tigers and the first since 1981 when the teams faced each other in the AIAW Tournament. Drake won the last game and holds a 3-1 all-time record against Missouri.
Scouting Missouri
Missouri (RV/RV), which finished fifth in the SEC regular season standings, is making its fourth-straight NCAA appearance and 13
th overall. Senior Sophie Cunningham averages 18.0 points per game and recently became the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,157 points. Cunningham reached the mark in the SEC Tournament semifinals, where the Tigers lost to No. 5 Mississippi State. Missouri is coached by Iowa native Robin Pingeton, who was an assistant coach at Drake for two seasons (1990-92) and the head coach at Illinois State for seven seasons, who is in her ninth season as head coach of the Tigers.
