DES MOINES, Iowa -- Several athletes and coaches present at the 2019 Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee were named NCAA Division I Regional Award Winners for the outdoor track and field season by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Friday.  Drake Athletics is proud of their accomplishments and wish them continued success at the NCAA Outdoor Championship this week.  Those honored included:

Men's Track Athlete of the Year
Southeast Region - Daniel Roberts - Kentucky  
A junior from Hampton, Virginia, Roberts tied the second fastest mark in collegiate history in the 110 Meter Hurdles at the SEC Championships when he went 13.07 to win the event title.  He posted a victory in a stacked field at the Drake Relays that included reigning Olympic and world champion Omar McLeod.
Men's Field Athlete of the Year
Midwest Region - Payton Otterdahl - North Dakota State
A senior from Rosemount, Minnesota, Otterdahl is ranked second nationally in the shot put at 21.37m (70-1½) and third nationally in the discus at 62.94m (206-6). He is the only male ranked in the top-10 nationally in both the shot put and discus.  He placed second in the invitational shot put at the Drake Relays to Olympic champion, Ryan Crouser.  
Men's Coach of the Year
Midwest Region - Joey Woody - Iowa
In his fifth year as Director of Track & Field at Iowa, Woody coached the Hawkeyes to the Big Ten Championship with a margin of victory of 13 points. The Hawkeyes qualified ten to the NCAA Championships and rank in the nation's top 25. The Iowa men won the Hy-Vee Cup at the Drake Relays in 2017 and 2018.  
Men's Assistant Coach of the Year
Great Lakes Region - Jim Garnham - Purdue
Garnham coached three men to the national championships including triple jumpers Jah Strange (Jr.) and Tamar Greene (So.) who finished first and second, respectively, in that event at the Drake Relays.  
Midwest Region - Justin St. Clair - North Dakota State
St. Clair coached six athletes to advance to the outdoor nationals including at least one in every throwing event and three overall in the shot put.  NDSU male athletes were in the top three at the Drake Relays in the invitational shot put, collegiate shot put, javelin and hammer.
Southeast Region - Tim Hall - Kentucky
Hall had five athletes advance to outdoor nationals which includes the work he did with Daniel Roberts, the SEC Runner of the Year and Tai Brown, the SEC Freshman of the Year.  Both hurdlers won 110M hurdles titles at the Drake Relays with Roberts claiming the invitational crown and Brown, the collegiate title.   
Women's Track Athlete of the Year
Midwest Region - Sinclaire Johnson - Oklahoma State
Johnson, a junior from Longwood, Florida, is ranked first nationally in the 1500 at 4:09.50. Johnson was a member of the Cowgirls' 4×800 and 4×1600 relay teams that won titles at the Drake Relays and split 2:02.79 on the anchor of the former to help break a school record.
Women's Field Athlete of the Year
Midwest Region - Laulauga Tausauga - Iowa
Tausaga, a junior from Spring Valley, California, is ranked second nationally in both the discus at 62.29m (205-8) and in the shot put at 18.02m (59-1½).  At the Drake Relays, Tausauga won the discus, was second in the shot put and eighth in the hammer.
