MACOMB, Ill. – The Drake University men's soccer team travels east to face Western Illinois on Tuesday night in Macomb.
The Bulldogs earned a thorough win in their last match against Kansas City, a 1-0 win. Junior forward
Leroy Enzugusi scored the game-winner via free kick in the 57
th minute. Enzugusi recorded career highs in shots (eight) and shots on goal (four) in the win.
Drake's defense pitched its first shutout of 2019, limiting the Roos to just four shots as
Luke Anderson picked up two saves. The win boosted the Bulldogs to 2-3-0 on the year.
Scouting Western Illinois
The Leathernecks have begun the 2019 season with five consecutive losses, most recently falling to Northwestern, 3-2. Western Illinois' struggles largely lie in its defense, which has allowed three goals in every game this year.
Goalkeeper Tim Trilk has performed valiantly in net. The senior currently ranks second in Division I with 32 saves.
Paul Kirdorf, a junior midfielder from Germany, was selected as a player to watch this season by Summit League coaches after being named a second-team all-conference selection in 2018. Kirdorf posted team-highs in points (seven) and assists (three) in addition to scoring two goals for the Leathernecks.
Junior midfielder Mitchell Moynihan leads Western Illinois with two goals and four points this year.
Western Illinois was picked to finish fifth in the Summit League after finishing last season 4-10-3. The Bulldogs topped the Leathernecks, 4-0, last year in Des Moines.
