Men's Basketball Begins Road Swing at SIU

On the heels of winning its 14th-straight home game, the Drake University men's basketball team takes its fortunes on the road to face SIU Sunday afternoon. Tipoff in Carbondale, Ill., is set for 3 p.m. on ESPN3.

The Bulldogs take to the road following an 84-74 win over Illinois State that was the Bulldogs' 14th-straight win at home. Drake shot 53.4 percent against Illinois State to mark its seventh-straight game shooting 48 percent or better. During that seven-game span, Drake is shooting 51.4 percent (206-of-401).

However, the Bulldogs have struggled to find that same success on the road as the team is 1-4 in road games this season and 3-5 away from campus. On the season, the Bulldogs are 13-5 and 3-2 against league foes, with all three wins coming at home.

SIU is 8-10 this season and 2-3 in league play under first-year head coach Bryan Mullins.

Drake sophomore Liam Robbins has scored in double figures in 10-straight games with 20-point performances in three of the last seven games with a pair of double-doubles. During those 10 games, Robbins is shooting 57.4 percent and 61.4 percent inside the arc.

As a result, Drake is averaging 46.0 points per game in the paint in its last two outings.

Last season against SIU, the Bulldogs were led by D.J. Wilkins, who averaged 17.5 points per game against the Salukis, including a career-high 20 points to help Drake sweep the season series.

The Bulldogs have won four of the last five meetings with SIU.

Following Sunday's matinee in Carbondale, the Bulldogs remain on the road to face Evansville Wednesday at 6 p.m.
