Men's Tennis Falls to Northern Illinois, 4-3

The Bulldogs face Gonzaga in the second half of their Saturday doubleheader.

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University men's tennis team fell to Northern Illinois, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

Reid Jarvis and David Nyman fell in No. 1 doubles, 6-3, but Oliver Johansson and Matija Matic won convincingly at No. 2, 6-1. Evan Fragistas and Luka Jankovic jumped out to a 4-1 lead at No. 3, but Northern Illinois rallied to win, 6-4, and steal the doubles point.

Jarvis won his singles match on court four, 6-2, 6-2, to pull Drake even. Nyman fell, 4-6, 0-6, on court six as Northern Illinois jumped ahead, but Johansson answered with a 6-3, 6-3 victory on No. 2 to tie the dual, 2-2.

Matic lost a competitive match on No. 5, 4-6, 6-7. Again Drake had an answer as Finley Hall came from behind in set two to win 6-4, 7-5.

All eyes turned to court one, where Evan Fragistas battled with Northern Illinois' Bor Schweiger Muzar. The critical juncture came in the second game of the third set when Schweiger Muzar broke Fragistas' serve, then won game three to claim a 3-0 advantage.

The two split the next two games, and Fragistas won a decisive point to hold in game six and make it 2-4. Fragistas couldn't get the break he was seeking, and Schweiger Muzar broke his serve again to win the match and the dual for the Huskies, 4-3.

The Bulldogs face Gonzaga on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the second-half of their doubleheader.
