Men’s Basketball Returns Home Against Indiana State

Bulldogs aim to defend 11-game home win streak.

The Drake University men's basketball team returns home Saturday for its Missouri Valley Conference home opener against Indiana State. Tipoff at the Knapp Center, where the Bulldogs have won 11-straight games, is set for 5 p.m. on Mediacom MC22 and ESPN+

Drake (10-4, 0-1 MVC) aims to rebound in front of the home crowd after dropping its league opener at Bradley, 80-72, in a back-and-forth contest that featured 15 lead changes. Liam Robbins continued his recent tear as he finished with 21 points while making all 10 of his shots inside the three-point arc.

Many of those baskets were a result of Roman Penn's passing as the point guard racked up a career-high 12 assists and 10 points for his first career double-double. In his last two games, Penn is averaging 16.0 points and 10.5 assists to push Drake's offense past its early-season doldrums.

Indiana State makes its annual trek to Des Moines as one of the hottest teams in the Valley with an eight-game win streak in tow. The Sycamores opened the conference season with a 68-56 win over SIU. Tyreke Key scored 20 points in that win while All-MVC standout Jordan Barnes added nine points, six assists and five rebounds.

Drake has won four-straight games against Indiana State and five of the last six meetings. The Bulldogs have won three-straight games in Des Moines.

Following the MVC home opener, Drake remains in Des Moines to host fellow defending league champion, Loyola, Tuesday evening. Tipoff for that contest is scheduled for 8 p.m. with a national television broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
