Men's Basketball Closes Season Series With Indiana State

Bulldogs to meet the Sycamores for the second time this season.

The Drake University men's basketball team closes the season series with Indiana State Wednesday evening in Terre Haute. Tipoff at the Hulman Center is set for 6 p.m. CST on ESPN+.

The Bulldogs won the earlier meeting between the two teams, 80-76, in Des Moines for the team's fifth-straight win over Indiana State. That streak ties for the Bulldogs' longest in the series.

Drake's last road game was a 23-point win at Evansville, the team's biggest margin of victory in a road game in the last decade. Drake followed that win with its 15th-straight home win Sunday against Missouri State. The 15-game home win streak is the 12th longest in the nation.

Drake has shot 48 percent or better in eight of its last 10 games and is shooting 276-of-577 (47.8 percent) during that span. In its last road game, the Bulldogs torched Evansville with 62.5 percent shooting from three-point range, the fifth time this season Drake has made 10 or more three-pointers in a game.

Roman Penn leads the Bulldogs after a week in which he averaged 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game in a pair of wins while shooting 83.3 percent from three-point range. His 16 assists on the week were tempered by just one turnover.

Garrett Sturtz is also coming off back-to-back 10-point performances while shooting 9-of-11 in those games. Sturtz is one of just 35 players in the nation averaging 6.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in less than 23 minutes of action per game.

Indiana State sits a game back of the Bulldogs in the MVC standings at 4-4 this season. However, the Sycamores are coming off an eight-point home win over defending MVC Tournament champion Bradley.

Indiana State is led by Tyreke Key's 17.2 points per game that ranks third in the Valley. In the first meeting between the two programs this season, Key posted 19 points while the Bulldogs were paced by five in double figures.

Following the midweek contest at Indiana State, Drake returns home to the Knapp Center to defend its home streak against SIU Saturday, Feb. 1. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. with the Bulldogs wearing special Des Moines themed uniforms as part of its Des Moines' Hometown Team Weekend.
