Drake vs. South Dakota - Postgame Notes

Team Notes
  • Drake improved to 2-0 to open a season for the first time since 2017-18 and the fourth time in the last decade.
  • Drake last began a season 2-0 with two games away from the Knapp Center in 1921-22 with wins at Cornell (Iowa) and Coe.
  • Under head coach Darian DeVries, Drake is 3-0 in Friday games.
  • Drake is 14-3 over the last three seasons when allowing less than 60 points.
  • Drake has committed just 18 turnovers in its first two games while recording 17 steals.
  • Drake held a 42-33 advantage in rebounds and is 33-7 under DeVries when outrebounding opponents.
  • Drake's bench scored 37 points in the second straight game. The Bulldogs' reserves have accounted for 49.7 percent of the Bulldogs' scoring.
  • Drake improved to 10-4 in neutral-site games under DeVries.

Individual Notes
  • Joe Yesufu finished with 14 points, the second-most of his career and most against a Division I opponent. He matched a career-high with three assists and three steals. His previous scoring high was 16 points against Simpson last season.
  • Garrett Sturtz was in double figures with 13 points. It was the 17th time in his career and the fourth time in his last five games he has been in double-figures. However, Sturtz was 5-of-8 from the field, marking the first time he has missed more than two shots in a game since Jan. 19, 2020.
  • Darnell Brodie had a career-high five rebounds.
  • Jonah Jackson was a perfect 2-of-2 from three-point range. He is 5-of-10 in two games this season and has yet to make a two-point shot in 36 career games at Drake.
  • Bryceson Burns and Jordan Kwiecinski both made their Drake debuts.

Series Notes
  • Drake improved to 10-3 all-time against South Dakota and snapped a two-game losing streak to the Coyotes.
  • The game was the first neutral-site game between the two programs.
  • Drake's 16-point margin of victory was its biggest in the series since 1983.
