Men's Basketball Opens Home Season vs. Omaha

Bulldogs aim to maintain home non-conference success.

The Drake University men's basketball team returns home for the first time this season to face off against Omaha at 7 p.m. Dec. 3.

The game will be streamed on ESPN3 and available via radio on ESPN 1350-AM.

Drake began its season with two very successful games in the Little Apple Classic in Manhattan, Kan. The Bulldogs followed an impressive 10-point win against Kansas State with a convincing victory over South Dakota by a 16-point margin. The bench was once again impressive, Joseph Yesufu stepped up in dramatic fashion owning the court with 14 points followed by Garrett Sturtz with 13. In the two wins, Drake's bench averaged 37.0 points per game.

Shanquan Hemphill put together another solid game in his last outing with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. Tremell Murphy made big strides in his return to the court, leading the team in both rebounds and assists with six and four, respectively, against South Dakota.

Drake's defense has shown great improvement in its two games, holding South Dakota to only 53 points on 37.3 percent shooting. The defense has also forced 8.5 steals per game and aims to continue that level of importance to improve to 3-0 for the first time since 1998-99.

Omaha is 1-3 on the season after suffering a 94-67 loss at No. 9 Creighton Tuesday evening. Marlon Ruffin led the Mavs with 18 points in 20 minutes in the loss. The Mavs' lone win this season came against Middle Tennessee.

Thursday's game is the first meeting between the programs since the 2017-18 season when they played twice. The teams split that series with each team winning on its home court. Drake is 8-1 all-time against Omaha.

Following Thursday's game, Drake remains home to host Saint Ambrose Dec. 6 at 2 p.m.
