Men’s Basketball Hosts Chicago State Sunday Afternoon

Bulldogs take to the Knapp Center hardwood where they have won 22-straight non-conference games.

The Drake men's basketball team aims to keep its historic start to the season rolling Sunday afternoon when it hosts Chicago State at the Knapp Center. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. with the contest being broadcast on ESPN+.

Drake returns home, where it has won 22-straight games against non-conference competition, after a 75-57 win at South Dakota Friday evening.

The win improved the Bulldogs to 7-0, to tie for the second-best start in program history and best since 1979-80. Only the 1970-71 team started a season better with its 8-0 record. Additionally, the Bulldogs are one of only four teams in the nation that are 7-0 or better this season.

Chicago State makes its first trip to Des Moines since 2017 with an 0-8 record. All eight of the Cougars' games have been away from home and the team is averaging 54.0 points per game. Xavier Johnson leads the team with 11.4 points per game. Drake leads the all-time series with the Cougars by an 8-0 margin.

Drake's Roman Penn returns home on the heels of his season-high 25 points in 26 minutes at South Dakota to lead the Bulldogs to their second road win of the season. The guard also chipped in five assists and ranks in the top 30 nationally in assists this season with 6.4 per game.

His performance marked the third-straight game in which a Bulldog has scored 20 or more points after D.J. Wilkins and Shanquan Hemphill each scored 23 points against Air Force and McKendree, respectively.

Following Sunday's game the Bulldogs remain at home to close out the non-conference season Dec. 22 against North Dakota at 6 p.m.
