Drake vs. McKendree Postgame Notes


TEAM NOTES
  • Drake improved to 5-0 for the first time since the 1979-80 season and the seventh time in program history. The 1979-80 team won seven games to open the season. The 1970-71 team won a school-record eight games to open the season.
  • The win was Drake's 21st consecutive non-conference home win. Drake's last home non-conference loss came Dec. 19, 2016 to South Dakota State.
  • Drake improved to 16-0 in non-conference home games under head coach Darian DeVries and 30-4 overall in home games.
  • Drake has gone 41-7 at home since the 2017-18 season.
  • Drake scored 80 or more points for the fourth time this season and the 20th time under head coach Darian DeVries. Drake is 20-0 when scoring 80 or more points under DeVries. As a program, Drake has won 21-straight games when scoring 80 or more points. The team's last loss when scoring 80 points came on Feb. 21, 2018 at Illinois State.
  • Drake's 45 first-half points were a season high and the Bulldogs have scored 40 or points in the first half in three-straight games. McKendree's 36 first-half points tie for the most by a Drake opponent this season.
  • Drake improved to 41-5 under DeVries when leading at halftime and has led at half in every game this season.
  • Drake had 19 assists and has had 17  or more assists in every game this season.
  • Drake had a season-high 66 points in the paint. The Bulldogs have outscored opponents by an average of 22.8 points per game in the paint. Drake is averaging 47.2 points in the paint per game this season.
  • Drake has outrebounded four opponents this season and is 37-7 under DeVries when outrebounding its opponent. 
  • Drake's bench scored 34 points to mark the fifth-straight game the Bulldogs have had 30 or more bench points. Drake's bench is averaging 40.2 points per game this season to account for 47.5 percent of the Bulldogs' points.
 
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • Shanquan Hemphill's season-high 23 points were his most in a Drake uniform. His career high of 25 came while with Green Bay against Northern Illinois on Nov. 28, 2018. He has scored in double-figures in all five games as a Bulldog.
  • Hemphill also made his first career three-pointer in 43 collegiate games.
  • Darnell Brodie had a career-high 10 points in just 15 minutes of action.
  • Tremell Murphy had a season-high eight rebounds and career high three blocks.
  • Garrett Sturtz was 4-of-4 shooting for nine points and in two career meetings with McKendree, he has shot 10-of-11 for an average of 12.5 points per game.
  • In addition to his 13 points, Roman Penn had five assists to mark the fourth time this season and 26th time in his career he has had five or more assists. On the season, he has a 32-to-9 assist-to-turnover ratio.
 
SERIES NOTES
  • Drake improved to 2-0 all-time against McKendree. The last meeting was a 98-70 win Dec. 29, 2018.
  • Drake now has an average margin of victory of 26.0 points in the series.
