Box Score WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Drake University men's tennis team fell to Purdue, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon. The result brings the Bulldogs to 3-14 on the season.
The dual began promisingly as the Bulldogs took the doubles point. After

Freddie Powell (7-5) both sealed victories to lift Drake to a 1-0 lead.
Momentum turned in singles action as Purdue got out of the gates quickly. Nyman lost 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5, and Johansson dropped his match at No. 1, 6-3, 6-2 as Purdue leapt in front, 2-1.
The Boilermakers added to their lead with a 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Fragistas at No. 3, but the Bulldogs wouldn't go quietly. Powell earned his second victory of the day with a 7-6, 6-1 result at No. 6 to bring Drake within 3-2.
Purdue closed out the dual, however, with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Matic at No. 4. Thorold's match at No. 2 went unfinished with the score reading 7-5, 3-6, 2-3.
Drake will look to get back to its winning ways when it hosts Cornell on March 6 at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. The action is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
