Robbins And Penn Earn Multiple Valley Awards

The pair both named to All-MVC teams and specialty teams.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Drake University's Liam Robbins and Roman Penn were both honored multiple times by the Missouri Valley Conference with the announcement of the league's annual All-MVC Men's Basketball honors Tuesday, March 3.

Robbins, a 7-foot sophomore forward from Davenport, Iowa, earned second-team All-MVC honors for his breakout season as one of the league's top big men. He also earned a spot on the league's All-Defensive team for his shot-blocking and shot-altering prowess.

Penn, a redshirt-sophomore guard from Calumet City, Ill., was named to the All-MVC third team and earned a spot on the MVC All-Newcomer Team after leading the league in assists in his first season at Drake.

Robbins led the league in blocks with a school-record 90 blocks, which is currently the seventh most in a season in MVC history. His 2.9 blocks per game rank seventh in the nation as well. Offensively, the efficient forward averaged 15.2 points per game in league play on 50 percent shooting and 52.6 percent inside the two-point arc. He added 7.8 rebounds per game in league action as well to rank third in the league.

Robbins had six double-doubles on the season, five of them in league play, and had three or more blocks in 19 games. In the home win over Loyola, he tied the school record for blocks in a game with seven and added 20 points and nine rebounds. Against Bradley at the Knapp Center, he posted a career-high 29 points on 9-of-12 shooting and a 10-of-11 night at the free-throw line.

Penn's 172 assists heading into the MVC Tournament is the third-most in school history to go along with his 11.7 points per game on 48.9 percent shooting. He finished the season ranked 33rd nationally in assists with 5.7 per game and is one of just five players in the nation to average at least 11.5 points and 5.5 assists per game, with less than 2.5 turnovers per game.

In league play, he had six or more assists in a game 11 times, including in the first eight Valley games of the season. At Bradley, in his first MVC game, he had a 10-point, 12-assist double-double. Those 12 assists were the most in a Valley game, followed by his 10 assists against Loyola.

Robbins and Penn lead the Bulldogs into the MVC Tournament as the No. 8 seed and will take on No. 9 Illinois State Thursday at 6 p.m. in St. Louis' Enterprise Center.
