Drake vs. Illinois State MVC Tournament Postgame Notes

MVC TOURNAMENT NOTES
  • Drake improved to 19-40 all-time in the MVC Tournament 
  • The win was Drake head coach Darian DeVries second in the MVC Tournament and the Bulldogs' second tournament win since 2013.
  • Drake improved to 2-6 all-time as the No. 8 seed. The No. 8 seed is now 10-41 all-time in MVC Tournament.
  • Drake improved to 4-8 against Illinois State in MVC Tournament with its third-straight MVC Tournament win against the Redbirds.

TEAM NOTES
  • The win was Drake's 19th of the season to tie for the seventh most wins in a season in program history. 
  • Drake has won 32 of its last 48 games.
  • Drake improved to 3-1 in neutral-site games this season.
  • Drake's 43 wins over the last two seasons are the fifth-most in program history.
  • Darian DeVries' 43 wins are the most by a Drake coach in his first two years on the bench. 
  • Drake finished the night with nine three-pointers and has made 229 three-pointers this season, the 10th most in a season in school history. 
  • Drake's defense held Illinois State to 65 points, one point below its season average. Drake has held its last four opponents below their scoring average. 
  • Drake had four blocks to give it 120 blocks this season, the second-most in school history. Last season's 130 blocks are the current record.
  • Drake's 13-point scoring run was its third-biggest against an MVC opponent this seson.
  • Drake led at halftime for the 17th time this season and improved to 14-3 when leading at halftime this season.  
  • Drake's 17-point lead at 55-38 was its fourth-biggest against a Valley opponent this season.
  • Drake held a 33-25 advantage in rebounding to improve to 13-4 when outrebounding its opponent this season. Drake has outrebounded three of its last five opponents.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • Liam Robbins finished with 18 points to record his 20th game in the last 24 in double-figure scoring. He has done so in 24 total games this season.
  • Robbins blocked three shots to extend his single-season school record for blocks to 93. That total is the fifth-most in a season in Valley history. He now has 128 career blocks, the third-most ever by a Bulldog.
  • Roman Penn finished with six assists and now has 178 this season, the second-most in school history. With his third assist of the evening, he moved past Al Stewart's 2006-07 season into second play.
  • Penn has had six or more assists in all three of his career games against Illinois State.
  • Jonah Jackson matched his career-high with 15 points on five three-pointers. He finished the night 5-of-6 from the three-point arc. It was his 12th game with three or more three-pointers this season and Drake is 8-4 in those games.
  • Jackson's five three-pointers equaled a career-high and was the third time this season he has made five or more three-pointers in a game. 
  • With those five three-pointers, Jackson became just the second Division I player in the nation since 1992-93 to make 60 or more three-pointers in a season without making a two-point shot. He has made 65 three-pointers this season, the 20th most in a season in Drake history.
  • Garret Sturtz finished one point shy of a career-high with 17 points for his 11th game in double-figure scoring this season and eighth in the last 13 games. He also added eight rebounds and has had six or more boards in six of the last eight games. Sturtz had scored 12 total points in the first two meetings with Illinois State this season.
  • Sturtz is shooting 51-of-66 (.773) during the last 13 games. He has not missed more than two shots since Jan. 19.
  • Noah Thomas matched a season-high with five assists.


SERIES NOTES
  • Drake improved to 32-62 all-time against Illinois State and 3-5 in neutral-site games.
  • Drake is now 4-8 against Illinois State in the MVC Tournament with three-straight wins over the Redbirds.
  • Drake finished the season 2-1 against Illinois State. 
  • Drake is 3-7 in its last 10 games against Illinois State.
