Drake Relays Presented by Xtream powered by Mediacom To Join OneIA Summer Running Challenge

Run virtually across Iowa while supporting local charities and the running community

The Drake Relays presented by Xtream powered by Mediacom has partnered with OneIA Challenge to raise money for Iowa charities and members of the running community during the COVID-19 pandemic through a summer-long virtual running challenge.

Blake Boldon, the Franklin P. Johnson Director of the Drake Relays, announced the partnership to encourage Iowans to stay in shape while supporting local charities and running stores. Interested runners can register at iowa.oneus.run.

"As we evaluate options to reschedule our events in 2020, we continue to identify unique ways to provide meaningful experiences for our athletes, fans and all those looking to get active this summer," Boldon said.

Runners of all levels and ages can join the OneIA Summer Running Challenge as an individual or team and virtually run the 310 miles from Sioux City to Iowa City or set their own personal and team mileage goals.

For $60, runners can enter the OneIA Summer Running Challenge with a portion of the entry fees supporting local charities, including Adaptive Sports Iowa, Track Guy Foundation and local running stores that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants will receive a branded hoodie and custom milestone patches as they run or walk toward their goal.  Teams of ten or more will receive a $10 discount per team member.  Teams will aim to collectively run the perimeter of Iowa.

Adaptive Sports Iowa is an extension of the Iowa Sports Foundation with the mission of  providing statewide leadership in the planning, promotion, education and organization of sports and recreation opportunities for Iowans with physical disabilities.

"We are excited to partner with OneIA to support our athletes of Adaptive Sports Iowa," said Chuck Long, Iowa Sports Foundation CEO/Executive Director. "This is a great opportunity for all Iowans to team up and get active."

Track Guy Foundation is a non-profit foundation committed to ensuring that cross country and track & field opportunities are available to all interested youth. Track Guy provides shoes, camp and entry fees for those in need of assistance and offers scholarship opportunities.

"Track Guy Foundation is humbled to have been asked to be a part of this venture," said Mike Jay, co-founder of Track Guy Foundation. "To get the opportunity to work with the likes of the Drake Relays and PrimeTime Timing takes this to a whole new level. Please consider being a part of the OneIA Summer Running Challenge which not only will support Track Guy Foundation and our mission, but your local running store as well".

The OneIA Summer Running Challenge is organized by Sean Gavigan, the owner and CEO of one of the US' largest track and field timing companies and official timer of the Drake Relays presented by Xtream, PrimeTime Event & Race Management. OneIA Challenge is a joint venture between Gavigan's company and Karmarush, LLC, of Philadelphia, PA. Karmarush is the premier data processor & broadcast graphics provider for US track and field.

"Iowa's running community is like a fraternity, and normally there would be hundreds of organized runs and walks throughout the summer to support local charities," said Sean Gavigan, co-founder of the organization. "Because of COVID-19, most running events across the state have been canceled. Our OneIA Summer Running Challenge seeks to unite runners and walkers, inspire them to train and stay fit, and encourage the sense of competition and companionship that the running and walking community is well known for."

"Our partnership with PrimeTime Timing has elevated the fan experience since 2017 and will continue to revolutionize the fan experience at Drake Stadium when America's Athletic Classic resumes," Boldon added. "In the meantime, this innovative summer program gives athletes of all abilities and ages an opportunity to accomplish something significant while supporting local charities."
