Rohan Makes Professional Debut for Chicago Red Stars

Rohan is the first Drake women’s soccer alumna to make a NWSL roster and earn playing time.

HERRIMAN, Utah – Former Drake University women's soccer standout Cassie Rohan made her professional debut with the Chicago Red Stars in the club's second match of the 2020 National Women's Soccer League Challenge Cup. Chicago and the Portland Thorns battled to a scoreless draw inside Zions Bank Stadium.

Rohan, who last week was named to the Stars' tournament roster after completing training camp with the club, made her debut after halftime. She played 45 minutes in the match becoming the first Drake women's soccer alumna to make a NWSL roster and earn playing time.

Rohan is on a roster that includes United States Women's National Team players Morgan Brian, Tierna Davidson, Julie Ertz, Alyssa Naeher and Casey Short. The tournament features preliminary rounds where each team will play four matches followed by two knockout stages and the final. The NWSL is the first professional team sports league in the United States to return to play amid the coronavirus pandemic. The teams were in training camp when the league shut down on March 12.

Rohan, a four-year letterwinner from Palatine, Ill., played in 58 career matches with 30 starts at Drake. She was selected to consecutive All-Missouri Valley Conference First Teams and MVC Tournament teams in 2018 and 2019. Rohan garnered 2019 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region Second Team honors.
