Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Anne Hirschfeld

Men's Soccer Falls to Missouri State, 2-0

The Drake University men's soccer team fell to Missouri State, 2-0, Wednesday afternoon.

"Missouri State is one of the top teams in the country and we enjoyed the challenge tonight. While we didn't get the result we wanted we showed we can compete with them," said head coach Gareth Smith. "I was very proud of our guys effort and tactical discipline tonight. We conceded the first goal on a very unfortunate player action which was hard to take after such strong first half performance. Out of possession that probably our more mature and tactically disciplined performance this season."

The two teams split possession throughout the match, but Missouri State was able to create numerous scoring opportunities. The Bears registered 18 shots compared to the Bulldogs' nine.

In the 38th minute, the Bulldogs attempted to kick the ball out of bounce, but ended up scoring an own goal to give Missouri State a 1-0 lead.

Senior's Bradan Allen and Absalom Solorio-Villalpando combined for four shots and three on goal.

Jesus Barea managed to find the net for the Bears in the 89th minute to secure the win, 2-0.

Kian Yari and Barea combined for 10 shots and one on goal in their time on the pitch.

Smith said, "In possession we grew into the game especially as the game opened up. Missouri don't give away many chances but we created some good moments to get something out of the game, but didn't take them. We pushed to get back into the game in the last 15 minutes which opened up the game on the counter for their second goal. A very strong performance overall and lots of positive to pull out of the game from a defensive perspective."

The Bulldogs hit the road to take on Evasnville on Sunday Oct. 31 at 2 p.m.
