DES MOINES, IOWA — Drake continued its torrid perimeter shooting by making a season-high 13 three-point baskets en route to a 101- 57 nonconference romp past Simpson College Tuesday night at the Knapp Center.
Drake, winning its fifth straight game, improved its record to 6-2 entering a Sunday nonconference home game with Northern Illinois.
Simpson, which had a three-game winning streak snapped, fell to 6-2.
This was the first meeting between the schools since Jan. 16, 1979 when the Bulldogs earned a 110-54 victory at the Drake Fieldhouse.
This was Drake's widest victory margin since cruising past Waldorf, 103-18, Dec. 5, 2019.
It also marked the first time Drake scored 100-plus points in back-to-back game since scoring 105 against Indiana State Jan. 17, 2020 and 108 against Evansville Jan. 19, 2020
Drake opened the game, making eight of its first 10 shots from the floor including four straight three-point baskets, to race to a 23-10 lead.
For the second straight game Drake established season highs for points in the first quarter, enjoying a 34-15 advantage, and points in the first half expanding the lead to 52-29.
Drake shot 50 percent (38-76) from the floor. Freshman guard
Katie Dinnebier added 15 points, including three three-point baskets and three steals. Guard
Megan Meyer chipped in with 11 points.
Junior forward
Maggie Bair paced a balanced Drake scoring attack with 17 points, including 11 in the first half. Bair made seven of eight shots from the floor. Freshman guard
Katie Dinnebier added 15 points, drilling all three three-point shots.
A scrappy Drake defense scored 23 points off Simpson turnovers. All 13 Drake players who suited up saw action.
Junior guard
Megan Meyer continued her torrid perimeter shooting by making three three-point baskets after hitting a career-high five three-point baskets against Longwood Friday.
Drake outrebounded Simpson, 57-31.
Sophomore forward
Courtney Becker enjoyed her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 13 boards.
Graduate guard
Maddie Petersen dished out a season-high six assists for Drake.
