OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Senior
Nicole Timmons (Davenport, Iowa) of the Drake University softball team has been selected as a candidate for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate softball. Timmons is one of thirty top NCAA® softball student-athletes, who excel both on-and-off the field.
A standout in the circle for Drake, Timmons is a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Second Team honoree and a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team selection. She currently has 34 career wins, to rank just outside the school's top 10 in the category, while she has 351 career strikeouts, the seventh most in program history.
Timmons, a Health Sciences Clinical and Applied major, is an excellent student-athlete in the classroom with a 3.81 GPA. She started Drake's Master of Athletic Training Program during the fall 2020 semester. Timmons will receive her undergraduate degree in May, 2021 and her master's degree in May, 2022.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in March, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2021 Women's College World Series® in June.
