Drake vs. Evansville Postgame Notes - Feb. 21

TEAM NOTES
  • Drake improved its record to 22-2, while matching the best start to a season in program history sharing same mark as the 2007-08 Drake team
  • The 22 wins are the fourth-most victories in program history
  • Drake moved to 13-2 to open league play which is the second best start to an MVC season in program history
  • The 13 MVC wins are the third-most in program history
  • Drake improved to 13-1 at home this season and 40-5 over the last three seasons
  • Drake is 34-18 in MVC games under coach Darian DeVries
  • Drake shot  65.4 percent from the floor (34-52), marking the 13th time the Bulldogs had shot 50 percent or better in a game this season, including the seventh time in Valley play
  • Drake shot 78.3 percent in the first half (18-of-23), its fifth-highest percentage ever in a half and second highest in an MVC game.
  • Drake's 85 points were its third-most in an MVC game this season. Drake is 13-0 this season and 29-0 over the last three when scoring 80 or more points. 
  • Drake led by as many as 30 points, the seventh time this season the Bulldogs have had a 30-point lead and the third in MVC action.
  • Drake made 11 three-point baskets, marking the fifth time the Bulldogs have made 10 or more three-pointers in a game, extending its record to 5-0 record when that feat occurs
  • Drake held Evansville to a season-low five three-pointers.
  • Drake's 47-30 halftime lead marked the Bulldogs' ninth double-digit lead of the season and was their fourth in Valley play.
  • The 47 points also were a first-half high in MVC  for Drake and marked the fourth time Drake has scored 40-plus points in the first half of a MVC game
  • Drake improved to 13-0 when DJ Wilkins has multiple three-point baskets in a game. He had three today.
  • Drake is 10-0 when Joseph Yesufu scores in double figures in a game. He finished with a career-high 32 points. 
  • Drake moves to 6-0 record when Yesufu makes two or more threes in a game. He finished with a career-high five treys today today.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • Joseph Yesufu had a career-high 32 points with 16 in each half. He also set a career high for most made three-pointers with five. He also added five assists and two steals to the books. 
  • Yesufu was 12-of-14 from the field shooting and 5-of-7 from three-point range. Of the 121 30-point games in school history, Yesufu's shooting percentage (.857) was the second highest in a 30+ point game in school history. Wayne Kreklow holds the record with a 19-of-22 performance for 43 points against Memphis State Dec. 16, 1978.
  • D.J. Wilkins had 13 points, shooting 5-of-6 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the arc. He tallied three assists and two rebounds for the Bulldogs. It was his ninth game of the season with three or more three-pointers.
  • Garrett Sturtz shot 100 percent from the floor and free throw line, making it the second time this season and ended with eight points. He added six rebounds and three assists for the Bulldogs.
  • Bryceson Burns recorded one block for the Bulldogs, making it the second time this season he had recorded a block. He also recorded one steal and one assists in his six minutes on the floor. 

SERIES NOTES
  • Drake, earning its fourth straight win against the Purple Aces, moved the all-time series record against Evansville to 27-28.
  • The fourth-straight win ties for Drake's second-longest win streak in the series and longest since 2011-13
  • Drake is 17-10 in Des Moines against Evansville, while winning its fifth straight home game in the series
