Drake at Valparaiso Postgame Notes - Feb. 7

TEAM NOTES
  • Drake had its a 18-game winning streak snapped, which was the sixth-longest winning streak ever by a Missouri Valley Conference team.
  • Drake's 18-1 start equals the best start in school history by the 2007-08 team which also got off to an 18-1 start.
  • Drake's 18 straight wins equaled the fourth-best start ever by a Missouri Valley Conference school, sharing the 18-0 start by Oklahoma in 1927-28.
  • Drake had a seven-game road winning streak snapped, the second-longest road winning streak in school history. The Bulldogs are 16-18 on the road under head coach Darian DeVries
  • Drake was held to a season-low 57 points while shooting a season-low 36.5 percent (23-63) from the floor.
  • Drake also had a season-low two three-point baskets, marking the fourth Valley road game in which the Bulldogs have made four or less three-point baskets this season
  • Drake outrebounded Valparaiso 40-37, but fell to 16-1 when outrebounding its opponent including a 49-8 record in the last three seasons when outrebounding its opponent.
  • Drake had two players (Tremell Murphy, Roman Penn) foul out for the first time in a game this season
  • Drake trailed at halftime for the fourth time this season. The 12-point halftime deficit was its second-biggest halftime deficit of the season.
  • Drake's 24 first-half points were a season-low. Valpo's 36 first-half points tied for the third-most Drake has surrendered in a half this season.
  • When Valpo extended its lead to 10 points midway through the first half, it marked just the fifth time this season Drake has faced a double-digit deficit this season and the fifth time in the last eight games.
  • Valparaiso's 20-point lead in the second half was the biggest deficit Drake has faced this season.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • ShanQuan Hemphill enjoyed his second-straight double-double of the season with 12 points while tying a season-high of 10 rebounds. He has scored in double-figures in all but two games this season.
  • Roman Penn led Drake with 19 points, including 17 in the second half. 
  • Joseph Yesufu had nine points and averaged 10.5 points per game in the series at Valparaiso.

SERIES NOTES
  • Drake's series record against Valparaiso falls to 6-8, including a 3-6 in games played at Valparaiso.
  • Drake's 57 points were its second-fewest in the series against Valparaiso
