Tim Lim of the Drake University men's golf team finished in a three-way tie for fourth place at The Southern Invitational.
As a team, Drake (294-302-292-888) finished tied for seventh with Stetson (291-303-294-888) after it posted its lowest score of the tournament Tuesday. Middle Tennessee State (281-291-271-843) was the overall team winner, finishing nine shots better than Mercer (293-284-275-852) and VCU (287-286-279-852), who tied for second.
"I felt good that our final round was our lowest," said head coach
Matt Lewis. "We had three solid rounds today. This was kind of the theme of the entire tournament."
Lim carded a final round 69 (-3) Tuesday for a three-round total of 211 (72-70-69) and tied Middle Tennessee State teammates, Connor McKay (71-71-69-211) and Owen Stamper (74-72-65-211). Pontus Nyholm of Campbell fired an 8-under 64 (73-70-64-207) in the final round, moving up from T-8
th to win the tournament by one shot over Peter Gasperini of VCU (71-69-68-208).
"Tim played great again," Lewis said. "He hit the ball wonderful all three rounds. He definitely gave himself a ton of chances. If he could have got his putter going he could have gone really low!"
Sophomore
Nick Pittman finished tied for 34
th (73-76-74-223) after a 74 Tuesday while junior
Lucas Scherf carded his best score of the tournament with an even par 72 to place tied for 38
th (73-79-72-224).
"I am proud how all of the guys battled and competed for the tournament," Lewis said. "We definitely knocked some more rust off our games and this will benefit us going forward."

Drake travels to Phoenix, Ariz. March 15-16 for the GCU Invitational hosted by Grand Canyon University. The two-day tournament will be held at the GCU Golf Course.
