Men's Tennis Prepares For Pair Of Home Matches

Bulldogs meet Omaha and then Gustavus Adolphus.

The Drake University men's tennis team prepares for another pair of home matches this weekend. Omaha will come to the Roger Knapp Center for the Bulldogs' second conference match of the year followed by Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday. The first Saturday match will begin at 3 p.m. and the Sunday match will start at 1 p.m. Both challenges can be viewed on GoDrakeBulldogs.com/watchtennis.

The Bulldogs are coming off their second win of the season, beating Creighton 5-2 at home. This win brings their record to 2-4 overall. Drake's only other win was in its lone conference match against Illinois State. The Bulldogs won five of six singles matches against the Bluejays and also received a 6-3 doubles victory from Oliver Johansson and Benedek Hermann.

Johansson, a redshirt-freshman, helped out his team greatly and earned himself the honor of being named the Summit League Men's Tennis Player of the Week. He topped Stratton Brown 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match, a vital factor to the Bulldogs win. Johansson is 3-1 in the No. 1 singles spot.

Omaha is 7-10 at this point of the season and is coming off a pair of losses in a double-header with Gonzaga this past Saturday. They saw some improvement from the first 0-7 loss as they only lost 3-4 in the second challenge. Matt Hulme and Abdoul Outtara won their No. 1 doubles match and will face Johansson and Hermann this weekend. This will be the first conference match for Omaha. The Bulldogs are undefeated against Omaha in the last three meetings.

Gustavus Adolphus is undefeated after their first six games of the season. The last action the Golden Gusties had was a 9-0 sweep over Morningside, this was their third sweep of the season. They will challenge Saint John's at home in St. Peter, Minn. on Saturday before traveling down to Des Moines on Sunday.

Following this weekend's matches, the Bulldogs will visit Tulsa, Okla. on April 3-4 for a pair of matches against Tulsa and another conference opponent, Oral Roberts.
