DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake women's soccer team fell to Missouri State, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon in blustery conditions at Drake Stadium.
Senior
Hannah Bormann recorded two shots, both on goal, for Drake. She was the only Bulldog to record a shot on goal in the match as both teams battled gusting winds.
In the 52nd minute of play, Sierra Fury scored to put the Bears ahead, 1-0.
"We had such a focused and disciplined first half of defending into the wind, that it makes it even more disappointing to concede such a soft goal," said Drake head coach
Lindsey Horner. "We didn't defend their throw well enough, didn't get enough pressure to try to block or alter the cross or organize marks in the box and had poor focus from our goalkeeping."
Senior keeper
Kelsie Stone recorded three saves for Drake compared to the Bears keeper Kaitlin Maxwell who recorded two saves.
"We had a lot of little mistakes that led to our undoing on the goal but also on today's result," Horner added. "This wasn't a sharp performance by us in the second half. We had the wind and the ability to get a hold of the ball to put our stamp on the game. We just didn't execute."
The Bears tallied 10 shots and four on goal in their 90 minutes on the pitch.
"This puts a lot of pressure on us to perform against UNI which is always a battle, so we will need to rebound from today to be ready," said Horner.
Drake heads to Cedar Falls to take on UNI April 7. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
