LOVES PARK, ILL. -- The Drake women's soccer team fell to Loyola, 2-0, Friday afternoon in the Bulldogs second match of the season.
In the first half, Loyola's Olivia Knab scored for the Ramblers with an assist from Freya Glen. Drake goalkeeper
Kelsie Stone saved a shot taken by the Ramblers in the first 30 seconds of play as the Ramblers offense got going early.
Head coach
Lindsey Horner said, "We were very organized and clean in possession to start the game. Their first corner inadvertently bent in for a goal which not only was a punch to the gut, but kept the game from ever opening up for us. In terms of intensity and speed of play, we were much better than Sunday but still not dangerous enough in creating chances."
The Bulldogs took two shots on goal in the first half but were unsuccessful getting past the Ramblers' goalkeeper Maddie Hausmann.
Junior
Libby Helverson attempted two shots on goal for Drake.
"
Erika Townley had a great look on a free kick and we had one more half chance in transition, but otherwise Loyola was difficult to breakdown, but I felt we were tough to breakdown in the run of play as well. Disappointing to concede two goals on corners, but pleased with how we played box to box," said Horner.
In the 56th minute of play, Freya Glen scored for the Ramblers. Loyola ended taking six shots on goal and Drake's
Kelsie Stone tallied four saves.
The Bulldogs return home to face Illinois State on March 10 in Drake Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
