ST. LOUIS – Freshman Skylar Rigby of the Drake University softball team is the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the MVC announced Monday, April 26.
 
Rigby earned her first-ever MVC award with a great week at the plate. Rigby, who started and played in three of the team's four games and helped Drake go 3-1, batted .556 (5-of-9) with two doubles and eight runs batted in while drawing two walks. She drove in three runs in the win over UNI and then drove in four in the team's final win over Valpo.
 
Rigby is the second Bulldogs' freshmen to be named MVC Newcomer of the Week in 2021. She joins Addie Lightner, who earned the honor on Feb. 15.
 
Rigby and her teammates visit UNI Tuesday night for a single game at 6 p.m.
