Men's Tennis Ready For Conference Road Match

Bulldogs meet Denver this Saturday at the Denver Tennis Park.

The Drake University men's tennis team wraps up a three-game road stint with a match at Summit League opponent, Denver, this weekend. The match will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday and will take place at the Denver Tennis Park.

The Bulldogs started last weekend with a 6-1 loss against a tough Tulsa team that was ranked No. 30 in the nation. Gabriel Sardo was the lone bulldog to win in singles competition. However, Drake bounced back and topped Oral Roberts 6-1 to improve to 3-0 in league play and an even 5-5 on the season. Drake managed to win all but one match in singles play and all three doubles matches against the Golden Eagles. Sardo earned Summit League's Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his performance, his first ever.

Drake has started all three of its seasons as Summit League members with a 3-0 record. The Bulldogs currently lead the Summit League, however North Dakota (10-4, 2-0 Summit League) and Denver (10-3, 1-0 Summit League) are not far behind. All of these teams will meet in the upcoming weeks.

Denver also edged out over Oral Roberts this past weekend in Tulsa, Okla. 6-1. This was their first conference match of the season. Denver won all three doubles matches as well and only lost the No. 1 singles match. They will challenge Omaha Friday before ending their weekend of play against the Bulldogs.

Following this match, the Bulldogs are back home in the Roger Knapp Tennis Center against North Dakota on April 17. Drake has a quick turnaround as they are expected to be at Wichita State two days later on April 19, for a match that was postponed earlier this year.
