MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Drake University men's golf team is in fifth place after the first day of play at the K-State Wildcat Invitational Monday at Colbert Hills in Manhattan, Kan. Drake carded a team score of 597 (291-306), 10 strokes behind Creighton and the hosts, Kansas State, in the first two rounds. Sam Houston holds a one-shot lead over Kansas City in the 13-team field.
Freshman
Jack Dumas posted a 147 (74-73) in his debut for the Bulldogs to sit tied for 12
th. Dumas tallied an impressive nine combined birdies.
Shayne Patel (73-75) and
Tim Lim (71-78) are tied for 14
th and 18
th, respectively, with scores of 148 and 149.
Nick Pittman (73-80) and
Lucas Scherf (83-84) round out the scores with 153 and 167, respectively.
Charlie Zielinski of Creighton is the day one individual leader at 6-under par (67-71-138) with Chad Sewell of Sam Houston three strokes back at 3-under (72-69-141).
The tournament concludes Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun.
