The Drake women's soccer team swept the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week awards, as announced by the league Monday afternoon.
Freshman midfielder
Makenna Shepard earned Newcomer of the Week after scoring the game winning goal against No. 15 Memphis. In the 13th minute of play, junior
Delaney Goertzen found Shepard in the box who then scored for the Bulldogs. Her goal was the first of her colliegant career.
Senior midfielder
Libby Helverson received Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row after securing the Bulldogs win over Memphis. She scored in the 60th minute to secure the win after a pass from sophomore
Emma Nagel. Helverson leads the Bulldogs in goals this season after scoring one in the last three matches, on top of receiving two points in each. She led the Bulldogs attacking efforts against Memphis.
Fifth year goal keeper
Kelsie Stone received Defensive Player of the Week honors after facing 29 shots and recording 10 saves in the Bulldogs win over Memphis. This is the second time this season she has received the honor (Aug. 23) and her third match she recorded 10 saves. She leads the MVC in most saves this season (49) and saves per game (7.00). Stone is tied for second in the conference for most shutouts with three.
The Bulldogs return to action Friday Sept. 17 at Drake Stadium with a 1 p.m. kickoff against Kansas City.
