Women’s Soccer to Play Final Pair of Non-Conference Matches

The Drake women's soccer team is scheduled to play a pair of matches this weekend in its final non-conference games of the season. Prior to Sunday's match, the Bulldogs will recognize its seven seniors on Senior Day.
 
Drake (4-3-2) will face Kansas City Friday Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. in Drake Stadium. The match will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
 
The Bulldogs are coming off a 2-0 win over No. 15 Kansas and sweeping the MVC Player of the Week honors.
 
Freshman Makenna Shepard and senior Libby Helverson scored for the Bulldogs to top Kansas. Helverson was voted Offensive Player of the Week by the MVC for the second consecutive week, as announced Monday. 
 
Fifth year keeper Kelsie Stone recorded 10 saves after facing 29 shots in her 90 minutes in goal. She was announced Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. She currently leads the MVC in most saves this season and saves per game average. 
 
The Bulldogs lead the Roo's in the all-time series 5-2-2. Drake lost in the two teams last match up.
 
Kansas City (2-6-0) are on a five-game losing streak. The Roo's have allowed opponents to score a total of 14 goals between the five loses.
 
In its last match, the Roo's lost to former MVC foe Creighton 3-0.
 
Kassi Ginther leads Kansas City with four goals, eight points, and 16 shots this season.
 
After taking on Kansas City, the Bulldogs have one day off and return to action Sunday Sept. 19 for Senior Day against Western Illinois. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. and the match will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
 
Drake leads the all-time series with Western 9-4 and have won the last five match-ups.
 
The Leathernecks are on a five-game winning streak prior to their match on Friday Sept. 17. In three of the five wins, Western has scored four goals to top opponents.
 
Amy Andrews leads the Leathernecks with seven goals, 16 points, and 28 shots this season.

After concluding non-conference play this weekend, the Bulldogs will face Evansivlle in its first conference match of the season.
