DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University men's soccer team stifled Belmont in a 2-0 clean sheet Senior Day victory at Cownie Soccer Complex on Saturday, Oct. 15. The Bulldogs improved to 5-2-3 overall with a 3-1 record in Missouri Valley Conference play while the Bruins dropped to 5-3-4 (2-2-2).

"Belmont is a fantastic team with a lot of experience," head coach
Pat Flinn said. "That makes today's result even sweeter for our team. It was a team performance. On a day we were celebrating our eight selfless seniors, I could not be prouder of the entire group."
Brennan Rzewuski helped the Bulldogs strike first with his first goal in the Drake uniform.
Damian Segura placed a corner kick in the 23
rd minute into the six-yard box, where Rzewuski knocked it into the bottom left corner of the net.
The Bruins were limited to two total shots in the first half as Drake controlled a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The one-goal advantage for the home team remained until another Bulldog chance presented itself in the 79
th minute. Enzugusi charged to the right side of the 18-yard box where he unloaded a pass to
Timmy Browning. The freshman connected with Thornton who did the rest firing a shot into the lower right corner of the net.
Up 2-0, Drake didn't just want to win but secure a shutout as well. After the ensuing kickoff, Jansen Wilson's shot missed to the left of the goal for Belmont. In the 85
th minute, Case Cox put a shot on at the net that was corralled by Burke. That proved to be the final shot from the Bruins in a dominant 2-0 victory.
Drake men's soccer has another MVC home game against Bradley at Cownie Soccer Complex on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.
NOTES
- The clean sheet marked Drake's fourth shutout win of the season (third in MVC play).
- Jonathan Burke earned his 15th career shutout in goal.
- The goal in the 23rd minute was Brennan Rzewuski's first goal with Drake and his second career goal (Eastern Illinois transfer).
- The goal in the 79th minute was Sam Thornton's third goal of the season and fourth career goal.
- Damian Segura and Timmy Browning both have two assists on the season.
- The Bulldogs outshot Belmont 10-8, including 5-1 shots on goal.
- Drake leads the head-to-head series, 3-0.
