POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The Drake men's golf team rallied to position themselves in second place out of 16 teams after the opening round of the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate hosted at Kilmarlic Golf Club (Par 71) Sunday, Oct. 23.

"The course played tough today," head coach Matt Lewis said. "It rained on us for about nine holes and was windy all day. We got off to a bad start, but I'm really proud of how the guys hung in there and battled all day."

Drake's team score of 293 (+9) was in large part to Lucas Scherf, Jack Dumas and Nick Pittman all shooting a 73 (+2) through the first 18 holes.

Shayne Patel was right behind with a first round score of 74. Cale Leonard rounded out the Drake lineup at 84.

The second round of the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate hosted by Old Dominion will begin Monday morning (Oct. 24).
