EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Drake men's soccer suffered their third loss of the year and second in league action this afternoon. The Bulldogs gave up two goals in the first half at Evansville and could not keep up with the Purple Aces attack.
The Purple Aces got on the board in the early stages with an unassisted goal by Kai Phillip in the seventh minute. Evansville struck again just a few minutes later when Tobias Bak assisted Evansville leading scorer Nacho Diaz to take a 2-0 lead (12').
The Purple Aces held on to their lead through the remainder of the first half. After the break, Drake struggled to claw back into contention until Evansville delivered the final blow. Diaz struck again after an Oliver Hald assist in the 62nd minute to reach the final 3-0 tally.
Drake was outshot by an 11-5 margin overall and managed just one shot on goal. The Bulldogs also attempted six more corner kicks than Evansville. Individually, five different Bulldogs recorded a shot.
Tommy Williams saw some action in net after 83 minutes of
Jonathan Burke with four saves.
"Credit to Evansville," Drake head coach
Pat Flinn said. "They took it to us and deserved every bit of the score. As the leader of the team, this is the first time this season I haven't been very proud of our effort, regardless of the result. Our lack of commitment was exposed by a good side that came ready to compete. We will get back to work and bounce back like we have throughout the season."
Drake will remain on the road for their next match when they visit MVC-leader Missouri State on Friday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m.
NOTES
